Did you know that at least 1 billion cases of blindness exist today? The number is of grave concern. It’s not that blindness is untreatable, but the reason for such a high number is the lack of medical infrastructure, as well as the lack of finances. Blindness, which is caused by a condition called cataract, is very much treatable (in most cases). In fact, this treatment can cost as low as 50$ only through a 7-minute surgery. However, as most cases of blindness belong to the economically backward sections of the world, such an amount can become unaffordable for the blind.
However, now the picture is changing – all thanks to Mr. Tej Kohli and Dr. Sanduk Ruit’s foundation that focuses on eliminating blindness and making this world a better space. Tej Kohli, who is a renowned investor and billionaire has poured his heart into this endeavour of helping the poor see the world as it should. Dr. Sanduk Ruit has joined hands in the venture. Dr. Ruit, popularly known as the “God of Eye” is a well-qualified and accomplished ophthalmologist who has made over 1,80,000 lives better by restoring people’s vision.
Sharing the same interest, in changing lives for the good, Mr. Tej Kohli and Dr. Sanduk Ruit have come together and given life to their foundation. Here’s a brief of what their foundation stands for and has achieved in the past few years.
- As of 2021, Tej Kohli and Dr. Sanduk Ruit’s foundation has checked over 128, 094 blind people. Over 14,000 of this number have been cured of blindness.
- Mr Tej Kohli and Dr. Ruit’s foundation has established several outreach camps in the economically backward regions of third world countries. These countries include North Korea, Rwanda, Tanzania, Lebanon, Syria, Nepal, Bhutan, and Afghanistan. These camps were set up with the aim of providing an enhanced reach of medical facilities to those who need them.
- With the goal of raising awareness, as well as making the stories of the blind heard, the foundation has partnered with the Evening Standard in London.
- The foundation has partnered with some of the top medical institutes of Ophthalmology, such as Ramlal Golchha Eye Hospital, Fatehbal Eye Hospital and Tilganda Institute of Ophthalmology, to provide world-class, advanced technology and expert medical services to the blind.
